New to Our DVD Collection: Jiro, Dreams of Sushi

Just watched Jiro, Dream of Sushi, this past weekend and loved it!  This 2011 documentary is  about Jiro Ono, an 85 year old Japanese sushi master,  and his never-ending quest for perfection in the art of sushi-making.

Jiro owns an unassuming 10 person restaurant in the Tokyo subway that has been deemed by Anthony Bourdain, Joël Robuchon, and other top chefs as the best place to have sushi in the world.  The restaurant has also been awarded the coveted 3 stars by Michelin!   Jiro’s unparalleled work ethic, family dynamics, and beautiful cinematography make this quiet film a winner.  Watch the trailer here:

  1. I just watched this movie this past weekend as well! It’s such a good movie!

    It made me hungry, though.

  2. Me too! Would love to put this on my bucket list as a place to eat!

  3. Muriel Verdibello says:

Bourdain also has a graphic novel about a fictional sushi chef named Jiro, set in a future L.A. Very entertaining.
