Hudson Valley Poetry: Twilight on the Hudson

Newburgh Free Library is showcasing the works of some of the members of the Hudson Valley Poets. This group meets at the main library on the first Thursday of the month at 7 p.m.

                         Twilight on the Hudson
There's a shadow on the mountain
In the wake of a setting sun
Its signal to the valley
That one more day is done

Before the onset of darkness
There is a time of dwindling light
                   So brief is the hour
                   That bridges day and night

There is shadow on the mountain
From its summit a marvelous sight
                   Looking down upon the town
                   Still swathed in yesterday's light

                        -Carol Daisy Grinnell
