Yesterday was the 55th anniversary of “the day the music died” – a reference to the tragic plane crash that ended the lives of music greats: Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big 
Bopper, J.P. Richardson, coined in the Don Mclean song, American Pie. For those who are too young to remember, Buddy Holly was an influential singer/songwriter who changed the face of rock and roll music in his short career; Ritchie Valens was the first Latino rocker at the young age of 17; and the Big Bopper was known for his rockabilly classic, Chantilly Lace. The singers were all on tour together when they decided to take a plane instead of their broken down bus and crashed in Iowa.
Author, Larry Lehmer, has written a very thorough and account of the events leading up to the crash and the detailed biographies of all the musicians and theories involved with the crash in the book, The Day the Music Died.
